Our History, the way to Colic Button®
Fourteen years ago, my husband and I experienced unparalleled joy when we finally became parents after several years of involuntary childlessness.
But the happiness was quickly overshadowed by the heartbreaking cries of our little one, who was suffering from colic. We tried everything we could think of — chiropractors, sugar water, physical therapy, manual therapy, fennel tea, dietary changes because I was breastfeeding — but nothing relieved the painful crying or the countless sleepless nights. The only temporary solace was driving, so we drove around at all hours of the day. The restlessness and exhaustion plagued our family for almost a year.
The joy of calm babies
When we had our next two boys three years apart, we finally got to experience the quiet baby time everyone talked about. They ate and slept, and we enjoyed every moment. The contrast to our first time as parents was huge, and we felt blessed.
Blessed with twins
A few years later, we were surprised with twins, and the joy in our home was indescribable. But the peace was short-lived. After a couple of weeks, our twin boy, Noah, began to cry inconsolably — the colic was back. We felt helpless, but this time we decided to find a solution. We knew there was nothing we were doing wrong; our twin girl slept 12 hours a night, while Noah struggled. We had to figure it out. Five children and a lot of crying.
My husband and I were left feeling helpless, but this time we decided to find out about this phenomenon called colic. I couldn't give up on the search for what could be causing these long crying spells. Now we had twins, the boy was affected by colic, but the twin girl was completely calm and slept 12 hours a night. Now it couldn't be anything I was doing wrong, nothing I was eating, nothing in their routines that was wrong or different, they were twins, one had colic the other didn't.
From discovery to entrepreneurship
After countless hours of research and experimentation, we stumbled upon something that changed everything. We found a method that quickly calmed Noah's crying. He started eating when he was hungry and sleeping for longer periods. The relief was immense, and we were finally able to enjoy time with our twins. That discovery ignited a spark within us. We couldn't let other parents go through the same thing without sharing what we had found. With the support of my husband and our children, I began my journey as an entrepreneur.
We collaborated with Tronrud Engineering AS to develop the first prototype, and with support from Ringerike Næringsstiftelse and Mer Innovasjon at Ringerike, we worked purposefully to create a quality product made in Norway. Colic Button® was created through close collaboration with other families who shared our challenges. Our goal has always been to help parents during the vulnerable period of maternity, in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal No. 3 on better health for all at all ages.
Our passion for helping others
Today, we are working with a fantastic team at Sintef e-health/digital health and are planning research into colic and the short and long term effects of Colic Button® for affected infants. We understand how demanding and emotionally draining colic can be. It is our passion to offer a helping hand through Colic Button®. We are here to support you on your journey as a parent, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to share our story with you.
